The short answer

Karachi’s beaches run along about 70 km of coast. Clifton Beach and Sea View are the open public seafront in the city, while Sandspit, Hawke’s Bay, Turtle Beach and French Beach lie west of the harbour along Mauripur Road, where families rent beach huts by the day. October to March is the best season; from May to September the sea is rough and swimming is often banned.

Karachi beaches at a glance

Karachi’s coastline runs about 70 km, from Cape Monze in the west to Port Qasim in the east. The city-side beach is Clifton Beach and Sea View, along Clifton and DHA. The hut beaches lie west of the harbour along Mauripur Road: Sandspit, Hawke’s Bay, Turtle Beach and French Beach, with Mubarak Village and Charna Island further out. Manora, at the harbour mouth, has its own guide.

Clifton Beach and Sea View

Clifton Beach is the city’s main public beach, on the Arabian Sea in Clifton, and it is open around the clock. Karachi calls the whole stretch Sea View, from Clifton along Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue through DHA Phases 5, 6 and 8 to the park near Do Darya.

Sea View is a place for an evening walk, food stalls and the sunset, and Dawn has reported the water there as polluted and unfit for swimming. Dawn reported in May 2022 that camel and horse rides were not allowed on the Sea View beach, while Wikipedia still lists them, so check before promising them to children. In December 2025 more than 3,000 volunteers cleared nearly 2 km of the Sea View shore in a single clean-up.

Hawke’s Bay

Hawke’s Bay is about 20 km south-west of Karachi, reached along Mauripur Road and Hawks Bay Road, roughly an hour from most of the city. A 2026 hut guide calls it the busiest and most family-oriented stretch of beach huts. Green turtles nest on the beach (some sources add olive ridleys), and WWF-Pakistan’s wetland centre is on the neighbouring stretch at Sandspit.

Hawke’s Bay looks calm at low tide but has dumping waves and rip currents. On 23 August 2025 three young men were swept into the sea at Hawke’s Bay; one was rescued, one died and one was missing when ARY News reported it.

Sandspit

Sandspit beach runs along the sand bar that joins Manora to the mainland. A 2026 hut guide describes it as quieter than Hawke’s Bay and closer to the harbour. Its turtle-nesting ground is managed by the Sindh Wildlife Department, and WWF-Pakistan’s wetland centre is on this stretch of coast.

The seabed at Sandspit drops sharply a few feet from the shore. Two young men drowned while bathing at Sandspit on 28 June 2026, and one travel listing says the beach has no official lifeguards.

Turtle Beach

Turtle Beach lies between Hawke’s Bay and Sandspit, and a 2026 guide describes it as the place for organised, managed hut days. A 2019 Zameen guide described its huts as furnished, with electricity, a backup generator, cooking gas, private parking and security, for 25 to 30 people.

The Cove Beach Resort and Club opened at Turtle Beach, on Hawksbay Road, in June 2025. Its website lists rooms, suites with private pools, a beachfront villa, a pool, shaded cabanas, a sea-view restaurant, jet skis and speedboats, and lifeguards; it does not publish a day-pass price.

The 2019 Zameen guide advised against swimming at Turtle Beach, especially at high tide. Three members of one family drowned there in July 2024 during a swimming ban, and Turtle Beach was one of five beaches closed to visitors from 6 to 13 June 2025.

French Beach

French Beach is a small fishing village between Hawke’s Bay and Paradise Point, set back from Mauripur Road on French Beach Road. Zameen reported in 2020 that a boundary wall limited entry to hut owners and renters, and most French Beach huts are privately owned and rarely rented, so arriving without a booking may not get your car through the gate.

The same 2020 guide describes clean water at French Beach, with scuba diving, surfing, kayaking and fishing with local fishermen. The shore is rocky and pebbly, and there is no running water or food on site, so bring both.

Mubarak Village and Charna Island

Mubarak Village is a fishing village about 30 km from the city centre, on the coast beyond Hawke’s Bay, and the departure point for boats to Charna Island. Charna is an uninhabited island about 1.2 km long, used for snorkelling, scuba diving and angling.

October to March is the season for Charna Island, and large numbers of jellyfish appear in October. Trips are booked through dive clubs and tour operators, and a university scuba retreat to Charna was listed for 2025. Mubarak Village was one of the beaches closed to visitors in June 2025.

Paradise Point and Cape Monze

Wikipedia says Paradise Point closed to visitors in 2017, but Dawn reported it among the beaches left open in June 2025, so confirm before driving out. A 2014 first-hand account describes being turned back about 10 km short of Cape Monze, and no recent source confirms whether the road is open.

How to book a beach hut in Karachi and what it costs

Beach huts at Hawke’s Bay, Turtle Beach and Sandspit rent by the day, and most bookings happen on WhatsApp. Operators usually take a third to half of the price in advance by bank transfer, and ask you to bring your CNIC. A 2026 guide advises booking a week ahead for weekends and about a month ahead for long weekends.

A 2026 guide lists day rates from about PKR 6,500 to PKR 25,500. A June 2025 Hawke’s Bay guide lists PKR 15,000 to more than PKR 85,000 for ten hours, and operators advertise large air-conditioned huts for more. Get the generator hours, caretaker, guest limit and exit time in writing before you pay.

Staying safe at Karachi beaches

Drownings on Karachi’s coast are reported most often between May and September, when people bathe in rough sea, sometimes while a ban is in force. Keep children out of the water, stay on the sand at high tide, and treat calm-looking water at Hawke’s Bay and Sandspit with care. For emergencies, call Rescue 1122 or Edhi 115.

Living by the sea in Karachi

On the DHA Phase 8 seafront along Abdul Sattar Edhi Avenue, families already live in Emaar Oceanfront‘s completed towers, and HMR Waterfront‘s first tower is due for handover in June 2027. HMR’s sales team puts the whole coastal belt at 108 acres, with 75 acres developed by Emaar and 33.12 acres by HMR Group.
